Princess Ico, a legendary name

Legend has it that Princess Ico, illegitimate daughter of the aboriginal King Zonzamas, had to pass a life and death test to prove that royal blood ran through her veins so that her son Guadarfía could be named king.

Unique architecture

Unique architecture

Our hotel is located in a large manor house from 1690 that preserves original architectural details of great value, such as the floors of tea, the coffered ceilings of 5 meters high, the wide stone walls or its wooden balconies, all carefully restored so that history continues to shine for many more centuries. The artist César Manrique included this property in his book “Lanzarote, arquitectura inédita”, published in 1973, a reference work on the traditional architecture of the island.

In 2017, the Government of the Canary Islands granted us the category of Emblematic Hotel for being located in a property listed as historical heritage.

The canary patio

It is one of the favorite places of our clients. Sample of traditional Canarian architecture, this is the space that César Manrique collected in his book “Lanzarote, unpublished architecture”, in which he cataloged the best examples of the original buildings of the island to serve as a guide for future generations. A place to enjoy the outdoors while sharing a glass of Malvasia wine and listening to the ringing of the bells of the church of Teguise surrounded by history.

Art in the Palace

Our hotel is full of art. Throughout our rooms hang works by different artists, such as the prestigious Canarian painter Ildefonso Aguilar or the photographer Linus G. Jauslin. Most of the pieces used in the Ico Palace come from artists and craftsmen of Lanzarote (ceramics, crockery, sculptures, paintings, photographs, lamps...). We are passionate about art and it was already permeating these walls before our arrival.

The visionary Swiss artist Heidi Bücher, who based her work on the historical and architectural, skinning and flaying spaces that for her had a personal meaning, fell in love with this mansion, who was its previous owner. The artist has exhibited, among other places, at MoMA, the Pompidou, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, or the Venice Biennale. + at www.heidibucher.com

Wabi Sabi Inspiration

That's why we have unique pieces in rooms that over time make them more beautiful.

Wabi Sabi, “is a Japanese aesthetic term that describes a type of aesthetic vision based on ‘the beauty of imperfection’ and minimalism. Only nine rooms, each with its own personality, where we try to preserve the original size of the spaces, some up to 65 square meters, designed in a rational, minimalist way, and with natural elements. In the suites you can enjoy spacious bathrooms in micro-cement with the intention of transmitting freshness, quietness, a feeling of serene melancholy and spiritual longing.
